Little Red Riding Bug
Little Red Riding Bug is on her way with a basket of
goodies to visit her Granny, who flew a little too close to a bug
light for comfort. But who should Little Red meet on her journey through the grass but the Big, Bad Frog!
A cast of hand puppet bugs, including Dr. Pillbug, Little Red’s Mama, and a collection of critters on their way to a fancy
dress bug ball, illustrate a lively tale loosely based on the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood.
Original songs set to vintage honky tonk piano music will make you “buggy” with delight.
Show length: 45 minutes*
Suggested age level: Families with children 5 years of age and up
Maximum audience size: 250
*If you would like a longer program, we would be happy to add a
15-minute “Show and Tell” and/or “How we make a Puppet”
at the end of
the puppet show. Please let us know before the performance date if you
would like this option.
This is a brand
new show, built for the 2008 Library Summer Reading Program. As of
April 2008, our workshop is overrun with BUGS!
Here's how we built them.
Peter builds the puppet heads with paper mache over plastic shapes. This is Dr. Pillbug.
|
Next, Peter adds eyes and paints
his face.
|
Hair is added. Note the comb-over.
|
Antennae and glasses are added. Debbie costumes him in a suit and colorful vest and he is almost done! |
The "Big Bad Frog" is made out of paper
mache as well. His shape is created by overcasting over a giant easter egg. This is
the top half, with eyes added. |
When the head is painted, it makes a big difference, doesn't it?
