In honor of the
“mysterious” theme of the 2007 Library Summer Reading
Program, Parasol Puppets has written and is building a brand new puppet
show. “Elementary, My Dear Bookworm” features the
great Puppet Detective “Sheerluck Tomes” as he works with a
community of animals to solve a mystery in the library.
This original hand-puppet show, approximately 35 minutes in length, is
designed for families and younger children. If a longer
program is desired, a 15-minute “Show and Tell” and/or
“How we make a Puppet” can be added if requested in advance.
This show already has many performances scheduled at Public Libraries in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. Please check our
Performance Schedule to find out when it's coming to a library near you.
Librarians, please call or
email us if you are interested in bringing this new show to your library patrons.
We hope that you keep checking to see how the show is progressing.

The great puppet detective is about to discover how the puppets in this new show are built.
He'd better start searching for a costume as well!
|
Ah, now that's much better. |
First, we'll make the rabbit.
These puppets are built with recycled plastic shapes.
This head is shaped with parts of a bottle and some Easter eggs. |
At least 5 coats of paper mache are added to make the heads nice and strong. |
Add fur, eyes, ears, nose and a bunny is born! |
Now let's check in on a monkey.
Start with a bottle and some plastic eggs. See the neck tube that the puppeteer puts his fingers into? |
Add 5 coats of paper mache and paint it white. |
An undercoat of "Monkey Paint"
and this fellow is ready for his fur.
|
Here they are posing for their first publicity photographs.
Stay Tuned for the next Exciting Installment of "Elementary, My Dear Bookworm"!
